Position Title: Director of Clinical Operations
Organization: Department of Neurosurgery, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis

Summary:
Washington University School of Medicine's Department of Neurosurgery seeks a Director of Clinical Operations, reporting to the Executive Director for Business Affairs. This position directs the clinical mission of the department, including inpatient and perioperative service coordination and ambulatory operations across all clinical sites.
Responsibilities:
Ensures that providers are able to meet their clinical, productivity, and efficiency goals. Manages the clinical infrastructure, systems, and facilities required to support the clinical enterprise. Works with department, school, and hospital leadership to plan and execute process improvement strategies around patient care delivery, quality, and cost containment.
Supervises clinical managers and nurse administrators across the department. Coordinates patient care operations with physicians, administrators, university and hospitals leadership. Oversees health information management systems, including medical records, electronic health records systems and HIPAA regulatory enforcement
Participates in the department strategic planning process, oversees new facility planning and construction, and provider schedules.
Uses clinical, financial and statistical data to manage operations and report results to department leadership. Assists in the preparation of the department-operating budget for clinical operations, prepares capital budget requests and ROI analysis for justifications. Oversees purchasing and inventory management.
Conducts performance evaluations for direct reports, with appropriate involvement from providers, and ensures all workforce members receive regular feedback, evaluations and professional development opportunities. Administers compensation planning and enacts change to achieve fair and consistent compensation among similarly situated employees.
Education Experience and Skills:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare management or related field is required
- Ten years of management experience in a physician practice or hospital service line organization
- Knowledge of clinical service operations, medical record process and technology, electronic medical records (Epic experience highly preferred), clinical safety, patient quality improvement, and clinical business operations
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills
- Strategic leadership qualities - including data analysis, prioritization and delegation - with the ability to work in a complex matrix environment
Preferred:
- Masters and health service management or business administration
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Experience in an academic medical setting
